Lasting change happens when communities lead the work themselves. YRO's Community Development program supports grassroots projects driven by residents — water access, sanitation, public spaces, and small infrastructure that improves daily life across Katavi.
We don't parachute solutions in from outside. Instead, we work alongside village leaders, women's groups, youth committees, and local government to identify the projects communities want, then co-design and co-fund them. Residents contribute time, materials, and accountability; YRO contributes coordination, expertise, and a portion of the budget.
Recent projects
Past initiatives include rehabilitating a primary school's water collection system, building public hand-washing stations at three village markets, and supporting a women-led cooperative running a community garden.
