Education is the most reliable path out of poverty — but in rural Katavi, the cost of school fees, uniforms, and learning materials puts secondary and vocational education out of reach for thousands of young people. YRO's Education & Scholarships program closes that gap.
We work with families, head teachers, and local community leaders to identify students who would otherwise drop out, then provide full or partial scholarships covering school fees, learning materials, and a small monthly stipend. Every scholarship recipient is paired with a community mentor who checks in regularly throughout the school year.
How the program works
Applications are open twice a year — January and July. Selection happens through a community-led panel that includes school representatives, parents, and YRO staff. We prioritize first-generation students, girls in STEM tracks, and students from the most remote villages of Katavi.
Who can benefit
Students aged 13-25 who are enrolled in secondary school or vocational training in Katavi Region and face financial barriers to continuing their education. Both English-medium and Swahili-medium schools are eligible.
