Katavi is one of Tanzania's most ecologically rich regions — and one of the most vulnerable to climate change. YRO's Environmental Initiatives engage young people directly in conservation, tree planting, and climate education, equipping the next generation of Tanzanian environmental stewards.

Our environment work is built on the idea that young people are not future stakeholders in the climate fight — they are the present ones. We support youth-led conservation clubs in schools, run annual tree-planting drives across the region, and partner with community elders to document and preserve traditional ecological knowledge.

Tree planting and conservation

Every year on World Environment Day, YRO mobilizes hundreds of young people across Katavi for a coordinated tree-planting drive. We focus on indigenous species suited to the local climate, and partner with schools and villages to ensure planted trees are protected and watered through their first year.
